Joan Steidinger, Ph.D.

Dr. Joan Steidinger is a licensed clinical and sports psychologist (CA PSY #12505) with offices in Mill Valley and San Francisco. She is a designated as a Certified Consultant by the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP); the international professional organization of sport and exercise psychology. In earning this certification, Dr. Steidinger has met the required AASP standards of education and training in the sport sciences and psychology and has undergone a rigorous review process. Dr. Steidinger has worked with sport psychology clients for 20 years and been in private practice for 28 years. She has worked with both pro and amateur athletes in such sports as running, cycling (both road and mountain), soccer, football, softball, basketball, boxing, tennis, triathlon, and golf.

She has graduate degrees from CSPP-Berkeley, University of LaVerne, and the University of San Diego. She’s a member of the Association of Applied Sport Psychology, Marin County Psychologists Association, and the American Psychological Association. She has been a columnist for moremarin.com and Psychology Today. She taught sports psychology at UC Berkeley and to her peers throughout California. She has worked with athletes, musicians, dancers, and other artists focusing on performance, injury concerns & adjustments, and personal issues.

Dr. Joan played competitively in badminton and tennis in high school. She was a competitive ultrarunner, Ride and Tie equestrian competitor, and double century cyclist as an adult. Ultrarunning is defined as any race over 26.2 miles. She ran numerous 50Ks, 50 milers, three 100 milers. She was on the first Tamalpa Runners Club’s ultra running team that placed first in the Pacific Region’s Ultra Grand Prix series. She placed third in the Open Division of that same series. In 2011, Dr. Joan and her husband climbed a 20K peak in Leh, India and a three day stage race in the Langtaqng region of Nepal.

Dr. Joan works with sports psychology clients in person, over the phone, or via email in the Bay area and beyond, Her offices are in Mill Valley and San Francisco.
